Breisach a. R.

Fortification romaine tardif sur le Rhin

Breisach est la seule ville dans le land de Bade-Wurtemberg qui a été visitée par un empereur romain : le 30 août 369 Valentinien Ier est venu à Breisach pour examiner les forteresses frontalières sur le Rhin supérieur. Conjointement avec sa cour il résidait dans le grand bâtiment administratif sur la place de la cathédrale qui est de nouveau illustrée sur le plan. La colonie en haut de la colline datée du 3e siècle avait une fonction administrative centrale et a été aménagée en château fortifié au 4e siècle. Dans le musée d’histoire de la ville outre l’histoire romaine, le siège du prince celte ainsi que l’histoire médiévale et moderne sont exposés en détail.
