Müllheim

Villa rustica

Sous l’église de Saint-Martin à Müllheim, utilisée aujourd’hui pour des concerts, des expositions et d’autres évènements culturels, se trouve le bâtiment principal d’une ferme romaine comptant parmi les installations les plus grandes au bord Est de la vallée du Rhin Supérieur. L’emplacement de l’exploitation agricole romaine était bien choisie : une saillie formée comme une terrasse sur une colline d’une moraine offrait un terrain sûr et une vue panoramique sur la plaine du Rhin. L’exposition permanente dans le musée du Markgräflerland dans le Palais de Blankenhorn, situé directement sur la place du marché de Müllheim, offre un aperçu de la colonisation romaine de la région et des particularités des villae rusticae, les exploitations isolées romaines.
